Ready*Corps

Mission

Washington is at risk for community disruption caused by both natural and man-made disasters. Earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, severe weather (wind, ice, snow), and tsunami are among the many natural disasters that can disrupt communities in our state. Man-made disasters related to chemical and radiological accidents, explosions, major transportation accidents, and acts of terrorism also threaten our communities. Despite these well-known threats, communities in Washington are still relatively unprepared for major community disruptions. To support local communities as they prepare for disasters Ready*Corps participates in disaster preparedness, disaster education, and disaster response activities.

Ready*Corps has partnered with the Medical Reserve Corps, a component of the Citizen Corps Council, that brings together local health professionals and others with relevant health-related skills to volunteer in their local community. They assist local, existing community emergency medical response systems as well as provide a group of readily trained and available resources to help communities deal with pressing public health needs and improvements. Members will be doing community outreach, public education and recruiting volunteers to expand the capacity of the Medical Reserve Corps units.
