How to find what fits you
So you are interested in an AmeriCorps or a Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) position with the Washington Service Corps? There are a few more steps to take before you fill out an application to serve.One important thing is to determine what type of service you are interested in.
- Education - Unmet educational needs within communities, especially that help children and youth achieve success in school and prevent them from dropping out before high school graduation.
- Economic Opportunity - Unmet needs relating to opportunities for economically disadvantaged individuals within communities including financial literacy, housing assistance, job training, and nutritional assistance.
- Environmental stewardship - Unmet energy-efficiency and environmental needs within communities.
- Healthy futures - Unmet health needs within communities including access to health care, disease prevention, health promotion initiatives, and health literacy.
- Veterans and Military families - Unmet needs of veterans, members of the Armed Forces who are on active duty, and family members of deployed military personnel and engages veterans in service.
- Ready Corps VISTA - Members assist local, existing community emergency management organizations to educate the public about preparing, responding and recovering from disasters, including public health needs and improvements.
- VISTA Individual Placement - Members achieve the core principles of VISTA (anti-poverty, capacity building, community empowerment and sustainable solutions) for local organizations in the areas of Economic Opportunity, Education and Healthy Futures.

Washington Service Corps members will discover that the Evergreen State has many wonderful things to offer. From east to west, Washington state has beautiful outdoor locations and bustling cities full of creative, innovative industry and friendly residents. There are areas of agriculture, including vineyards, wheat fields and the famous Washington apple orchards. From the magnificent mountain peaks, rain forests and desert to lush wetlands and roaring rivers in valleys that lead to the Pacific Ocean, there is much to inspire a visitor.
