Relief of benefits charges
You may request that your account not be charged for benefits paid to a former employee if:- The employee voluntarily quit and you did not cause the quit.
- You discharged the employee for misconduct connected with the work.
- You laid off the employee as a direct result of a catastrophe, such as fire, flood or other natural disaster.
- The employee continues to work for you on a regularly scheduled, permanent, part-time basis and does not work for another employer at the same time.
- The employee was hired to temporarily replace a military reservist or National Guard member who returns to work from active military service.
To request relief of benefit charges, send a letter to us at the address below explaining the situation and the reason you believe you should not be charged for the person’s benefits. Include your name, business name, address and Employment Security (ES) reference number, and sign the request.

If we decide that your account will still be charged, we will notify you in writing. You then have the option of filing an appeal if you still disagree.
