Hire-A-Vet Month job fair in Tacoma - June 8, 2006

OLYMPIA – WorkSource Pierce and AMVETS Post # 1 are co-sponsoring a job fair to help veterans and National Guard and Reserve members find good jobs.

A “Hire-A-Vet First” job fair is set for Friday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at AMVETS Post # 1, 5717 South Tyler, in Tacoma. There is no charge for admission.

About 60 employers and colleges will attend the fair, including the Seattle Boiler Makers Union, Sound Transit, Ironworkers Apprenticeship, Sears Home Improvement, Comcast, Akal Security, Maxim Healthcare and Bates Technical College. Government job opportunities with the city of Tacoma, Tacoma City Water, Social Security Administration, Seattle City Light, Department of Homeland Security, state Department of Corrections, U.S. Army, U.S Army National Guard, Internal Revenue Service and the Tacoma Police Department, also will be showcased.

The event is targeted toward all veterans, especially those returning from war. Returning Reserve and National Guard members and the general public also are encouraged to attend.

Applicants should bring copies of their resume and be prepared to interview with recruitment specialists. WorkSource staff also will be available to provide advice and assistance with resumes, interviewing and training opportunities.

Information about the federal Veteran’s Administration, college training and apprenticeships also will be available.
