Vancouver – People in the Vancouver area who have disabilities will have an opportunity on Oct. 18 to learn more about career opportunities that may interest them.

The Vancouver WorkSource center is hosting a Disability Mentoring Day, during which people with disabilities may participate in company tours, job shadowing and informal training.

Last year in Clark County, the Red Lion Hotel and BBA Fiberweb hosted job-shadowing efforts for students from the Washington School for the Deaf.

Ron Kramer, who worked with BBA Fiberweb at the time, said he asked the recruits what they were interested in, then “we matched them with a mentor that could explain all the perks of that career.  The students really enjoyed the experience and so did the staff.”

WorkSource Vancouver has helped more than 1,100 people in Clark County find employment since January.

People with disabilities who want to participate should contact the Vancouver WorkSource at 360-735-5010, and companies who are interested in hosting should contact the WorkSource Business Services Unit at 360-735-5019.
