Economic symposium coming to Spokane on July 28 - July 21, 2006

OLYMPIA – The Washington Employment Security Department (ESD) will present a mid-year update and outlook on Washington’s economy during a half-day economic symposium in Spokane on July 28. 

The event will be held in the Cheney Cowles Center Auditorium at the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture, located at 2316 West 1st Ave., in Spokane.  Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the program will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

The symposium is being hosted by ESD’s Labor Market and Economic Analysis Branch.  Speakers will include the state’s chief economist, Evelina Tainer, on the state of the state’s economy; Jeff Zahir, ESD’s regional labor economist for Eastern Washington, on the current state of Spokane’s and Eastern Washington’s economies; and Steve Scranton, chief investment officer for Washington Trust Bank, discussing what to expect in the Spokane area in the next year.
