The Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment
Membership Information
Members volunteer their time and knowledge to support the work of the committee and benefit the community of people with disabilities in Washington state.
Qualifications:
- Be a person of disability, family member of a person of disability and/or an advocate/professional for disabled persons.
- Have experience working to empower persons of disability to obtain equality of opportunity and/or maximum independence.
- Possess expertise, special skills or resources that will contribute to the activities of the GCDE.
- Have the GCDE experience or demonstrated leadership experience in community-based activities, which enhance opportunities for people who have disabilities.
- Attend the GCDE meetings and participate in the GCDE activities on a regular basis.
Responsibilities:
- To attend and participate in the GCDE general membership meetings.
- To participate in establishing policies for the GCDE and work actively towards their implementation.
- To serve on the GCDE subcommittee(s) and actively work to support their activities.
- To respond to mail polls, surveys and other GCDE mailings.
- To serve as a resource, i.e., a technical content expert, alerting the GCDE to issues, opening doors, and working on projects as feasible.
- To be involved locally and to serve as a GCDE contact to the local community.
- To assist the GCDE in establishing relationships with state agencies, especially those that serve the disability community, local governments, private industry, educational institutions, labor and other private organizations as may be needed to promote equal opportunity.
- To submit a participation log at every general membership meeting.
