Commissioner Paul Trause

Paul Trause was appointed commissioner of the Employment Security Department in 2010 after serving as deputy commissioner for nearly six years. Previously, Trause served as director of the Department of Labor & Industries and deputy commissioner of Employment Security under two previous commissioners. He has held numerous positions in local, state and federal government. Trause holds an undergraduate degree and a law degree from Cornell University.

Deputy Commissioner Joel Sacks
Joel Sacks was appointed deputy commissioner of the state Employment Security Department by Commissioner Paul Trause in October 2010. Previously, Sacks served for five years at Employment Security as assistant commissioner for the Budget, Policy and Communications Division. Prior to joining Employment Security, he was deputy director of field services at the state Department of Labor and Industries. He also served four years at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the U.S. Department of Labor. Sacks holds degrees in political science and public administration.
