The opportunity
WorkSource North Seattle is recruiting for an employment specialist position that supports and contributes to the mission of the organization in the following way: interviewing and assessing Unemployment Insurance (UI) customers to determine job readiness/employability and training/retraining needs; making appropriate referrals to jobs and training/retraining resources; offering information about community based resources; and/or facilitate handoff to one-on-one services provided by suitable staff.
Major duties
- Ensure UI customers receive a Reemployment Services Summary (RSS).
- Ensure UI customers receive a referral to a job or training/retraining resources.
- Provide, in both written format and in easily understood language, information about programs, services and referrals provided by WorkSource and WorkSource partners.
- Ensure services received by customers are timely and relevant.
- Facilitates group presentations for Mod 1-6 or performs Job search Review (JSR) application as assigned by supervisor.
- Answer questions regarding employment and training programs, WorkSource and WorkSource partner services and unemployment services.
- Ensure customers are directed to available learning opportunities (workshops, on-line tutorials, resume software).
- Gather, record, update and maintain customer service information into appropriate records systems; e.g. Service, Knowledge & Information Exchange System (SKIES), RFS, WorkSource Tracking System, etc. on a timely basis.
- Assesses and interprets employment and economic data regarding labor market conditions, occupational demand, wages, etc.
- Interpret and apply governmental laws, rules, regulations and initiate actions in a way that the public perceives as fair, objective and reasonable.
Required qualifications
One year as a WorkSource Specialist 2 or equivalent class within the Employment Security Department, or in another state’s employment security agency.
or
A bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in social or human resource services, public relations, or public contact work, such as: unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement, banking, and real estate.
or
A master's degree.
Additional experience in social or human resource services, public relations, or public contact work will substitute, year for year, for education, but not for the two years of professional experience.
College course work will substitute, year for year, for the required years of experience specified above.
Qualifying volunteer experience in the above defined areas of work is acceptable.
Desired qualifications
- Experience evaluating job readiness of clients by conducting individual assessment and evaluation of individual’s employment and training needs.
- Experience with interviewing techniques and principles. (Preferred – two years)
- Demonstrated basic understanding and working knowledge of job matching, referral and placement, job readiness, assessment techniques, labor market, community resources and job search techniques. (Preferred – two years)
- Experience with interviewing techniques and principles. (Preferred – two years)
- Experience conducting intensive job search workshops and related support group activities. (Preferred – two years).
- Experience to monitor and record data into multiple management information systems. (Preferred – two years).
