WorkSource Yakima is seeking a counselor to provide a range of employment and job-training services to the local community.

WorkSource Operations Division profile
WorkSource sites statewide and the Web site provide no-fee job-listing and referral services to match employers and job seekers. Special programs and services are available for employers, welfare recipients, veterans, farm workers, persons of disability, unemployment insurance claimants, youth and others.
The opportunity
As a counselor, you will provide employment and job-training services, with the authority to approve training funds and authorize supportive services. You will work with job seekers to determine program eligibility and provide intensive services. You will counsel and guide these customers, ensuring the achievement of their job-search and employment goals.
Specifically, you will assess clients through one-on-one interviews. You will use assessment results, work experience, education, previous performance, personal characteristics, and other factors to determine employment qualifications. You will collaborate with partner agencies to develop recommendations and individual employment plans suited for the needs of the client.

NOTE: This project position is renewable each year on January 1.
Required qualifications
One year's experience as a WorkSource Specialist 3 or equivalent class within Employment Security Department, or in another state’s employment-security agency,
OR
Two years as a WorkSource Specialist 2 or equivalent class within Employment Security Department, or in another state’s employment-security agency,
OR
A bachelor's degree and three years of professional level experience in social or human-resource services, public relations, or public-contact work, such as: unemployment insurance, social services, human-resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement, banking, or real estate.
A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required professional experience.
Additional experience in social or human-resource services, public relations, or public-contact work will substitute, year for year, for education, but not for the three years of professional experience.
Qualifying volunteer experience in the above defined areas of work is acceptable.
