The Experience Rating/Benefit Charging Unit is seeking a Tax Specialist 3 to grant or deny benefit charges relief, grant or deny requests for unemployment insurance tax rate recalculations, and grant or deny appeals.

Unemployment Insurance Division profile
The Unemployment Insurance division administers and provides program services through statewide TeleCenters and its Web site. This division collects premiums from Washington employers and pays UI benefits to individuals who meet eligibility requirements. It also reviews, audits, and investigates instances of fraud.
The opportunity
We are seeking talented professionals, not only with unemployment insurance tax experience, but also with strong communication skills who can consult with customers in person, by telephone, or by written correspondence. Our team serves the Washington State business community, reporting agents, legal representatives, out-of-state businesses, and other state and federal agencies.
As a Tax Specialist 3, you will administer unemployment insurance programs and provide direct services for inter-related tax programs. Specifically, you will grant or deny benefit charges relief, grant or deny requests for unemployment insurance tax rate recalculations, and grant or deny appeals. You will investigate and analyze information to support your approval or denial decisions. You will monitor tax rates and benefit charges for mathematical accuracy and statutory compliance. In addition, you will identify patterns of any system error problems and work with the Information Technology Services Division to make recommendations and work together for resolution.
Required qualifications
A Bachelor's degree which includes a minimum of 12 semester or 18 quarter hours of college-level accounting and two years of professional accounting or auditing experience.
Additional professional-level accounting or auditing experience will be substituted, year for year, for education except for the 12 semesters or 18 quarter hours of college-level accounting.
OR
One year as a Tax Specialist 2 - ES.
NOTE: Only accounting courses transferable to a Washington State degree granting institution will be acceptable as equivalent college-level accounting.
Desired qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with one year of experience as an Unemployment Insurance Tax Specialist 2, one year of experience using Microsoft Word to create documents using professional business format, and one year of experience using Microsoft Excel.
