The opportunity
The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) is recruiting for a senior-level server/desktop specialist that supports the Employment Security Department’s Unemployment Insurance Telecenters data systems. These are large-scale high-visibility systems that are essential to the successful payment of Unemployment Insurance to out-of-work citizens.
Major duties
- Through the use of remote telephony and workstation technologies, works as part of a team serving as the primary initial contact for customer IT issues in a multi-server and workstation environment.
- Uses systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications.
- Designs, develops, documents, analyzes, creates, tests or modifies computer systems or software, including prototypes, based on and related to the user or system design specifications.
- Directs or facilitates the installation of complex software systems and monitors/enhances operating environments to ensure optimal performance.
- Applies technical knowledge and provides support through the use of various logical means (e.g. SMS, VNC, terminal emulation, and shadowing) specializing in the areas of server/workstation hardware, software, peripherals, terminal emulation connectivity.
- Uses a working knowledge of networking technology to include switches, LAN, WAN, Enterprise systems (e.g. Citrix, WINS, DHCP, DNS Active Directory, SMS, and Exchange) and their interaction with PCs to determine system and localized problems and to track the locations of all equipment.
- Completes, adds, moves, and changes utilizing Active Directory, Systems Management Server, and network operations systems software (e.g. Windows Server 2003, LINUX). Maintains customer data and printers utilizing Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, and LINUX.
Required qualifications
Four years of information technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment, directing projects, providing customer or technical support in information technology; or administering or supervising staff who performed work in any of these information technology disciplines.
Special Requirements:
Must have three years (within the last 5 years) experience with Windows Server 2003.
Desired qualifications
- One year (within the last 5 years) experience of Citrix XenApp/Presentation server.
- One year experience with HP Network Printers and Windows Print servers.
- Three years (within last 5 years) experience with Symantec Antivirus.
- Knowledge and experience with Symantec Ghost software, and VERITAS back up software.
- Knowledge and experience with switches, routers, network connectivity, WINS, DNS, DHCP in addition to integrated network technologies in a Windows Active Directory environment.
- Knowledge and experience with VB and Power Shell scripting.
