The opportunity
Performs or leads analysis, consulting, design, programming, maintenance, and/or support for complex applications that impact multiple business units or functions for Employment Security Department (ESD) Application Systems.
The mission of ESD is to provide help for job seekers, to ensure the unemployed of Washington State have the means to support their family while seeking employment, connect job seekers with employers, and provide businesses with the information and tools needed to adapt to a changing economy.
Major duties
- As a senior level technical specialist you will plan, analyze, optimize, develop, and enhance complex applications.
- Develops alternative solutions, makes recommendations, facilitates application approval process, and implements approved solutions.
- Develops Use cases.
- Designs, develops, codes, tests, and implements specifications for complex applications from start to finish using Active Server Pages, JavaScript, Microsoft.Net, Microsoft Reporting Services, XML, Web Services, SQL Server, IIS WEB Server, and HTML programming languages.
- As a project member of large, high-risk projects, you will develop project plans, sets, and maintain project schedule, coordinate design maintenance and testing, assign and lead staff, ensure standards are met (quality assurance is met), develop and implement communication strategy and manage budget.
- Performs off-hour callback (standby) to restart and recover failed jobs in the production environment, as assigned by the appointing authority.
- Mentors, coaches, and trains junior level staff in software and hardware applicable to ESD Application Systems.
- Responsible for working with the Production Control staff in coordinating job scheduling information, job documentation, and client security requirements for Information Services computer-based applications.
Required qualifications
Four years of information technology (IT) experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment; directing projects; providing customer or technical support in IT; or administering or supervising staff who performed work in any of these IT disciplines.
Special Requirements
Four years in the past seven years experience programming computers using Microsoft.Net, Microsoft Reporting Services, SQL, and HTML programming languages, and one year defining Use cases.
Desired qualifications
- The ability to thrive in a high-intensity, fast-paced environment, and provide workable solutions to complex problems.
- Four years experience in the following technologies: Active Server Pages, JavaScript, VB.Net, ASP.Net, VBScript.Net, JavaScript, XML, Web Services, and IIS WEB Server.
