The opportunity
As a senior level specialist this position provides direct support and technically contributes to the mission of the agency by sharing in the maintenance and support of more than 300 servers. Server support ranges from critical production applications such as Go2WorkSource, Tax and Wage Technology, SKIES, key SQL resource data file servers and development and test environments for most agency business applications.
This senior-level specialist position is responsible for diagnosing and resolving trouble and performance issues on Network Services support servers. Coordination and interaction with multiple ESD business units, partners and citizens of Washington to maintain the highest level of server availability.
Major duties
- Maintain assigned servers to a 99.9% availability rate.
- Monitor all aspects of assigned servers, including capacity availability, CPU, memory and storage utilization insuring that indicators of utilization over 80% in any category are brought forward to the supervisor and/or manager. Event logs are monitored daily and proper corrective action or escalation is performed.
- Responsible for maintaining antivirus, MOM, SCCM, WSUS, IBM Director, Antivirus, and all current security patches on all assigned servers.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain hardware for complex application system supporting agency test, development and production environments. Analyzes and corrects server and network connectivity malfunctions.
- Responsible for conducting daily performance monitoring of server systems for trend analysis, capacity utilization, potential performance and failure indicators, security concerns and system efficiency.
- Perform server and related hardware installation, troubleshooting, replacement and setup of network servers (both hardware and virtual machine); perform hardware work, such as, adding/replacing RAM, CPU’s, hard drives, internal boards, TSM backup operations, RAID arrays, perform BIOS upgrades, install, configure and modify SCSI/SATA devices, CD-ROM/DVD drives and printers. Escalate to appropriate tech support within four hours if problems have not been resolved.
- Responsible for coordinating server placement, power, UPS and HVAC and capacity planning requirements with the Agency Network Architect: coordinating power, HVAC, switching, location coordination and cabinet assignment.
- Responsible for coordinating all changes, maintenance and scheduled outages with LAN Support Supervisor, Networks Services manager, business customers and entering them into the ITSD Change Management System prior to implementation.
- Conducts needs assessments, requirements analysis and evaluates products for computing technologies that may be applied to a division, large work group or single business unit's requirements.
- Creates installation plans; coordinates with customers, independently installs and configures hardware/OS software, and is responsible for diagnosing and resolving local area server and performance issues for the greater ESD, Central Campus. Provides information technology systems support to mission and business critical systems, multiple business units within Employment Security, agency partners and the citizens of Washington.
Required qualifications
Four years of information technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, install and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, or network infrastructure equipment, directing projects, providing customer technical supporting information technology; or administering or supervising staff who perform work in any of these information technology discipline.
Special Requirements:
One year experience working in an enterprise MS server 2003 environment (greater than 50 servers)with responsibilities for all hardware and software support, backup, customer support problem resolution, performance monitoring and event log monitoring.
Desired qualifications
- Industry certifications; MCSE, MCP, A+, N+, Tivoli Storage Manager (TSN) Certification
- One year support EMC’s Centera Imaging support systems.
- One year supporting SharePoint infrastructure operations.
- Be operationally familiar and functionally capable of supporting an enterprise level MS server 2003 and backup and recovery system.
- Show work experience with MS server 2003/2000, and Intel hardware support.
