The opportunity
Employment Security Department’s (ESD) Information Technology Systems Division (ITSD) is recruiting for Application Test Engineers. This position will support the testing of a large-scale high-visibility project, Next Generation Tax System (NGTS).

Major duties

  • This position, under the supervision of the Test Manager, will provide professional test and quality assurance services. Independently follow structured processes for testing highly complex systems using a variety of tools and applications such as Test Edition, functional test cases, queries and reports.
  • Develop and execute test plans, cases and scripts to ensure application/system accuracy and quality. Analyze test results for functionality, usability and adherence to division standards. Document application defects and consult with developers on all platforms in the resolution of problems.
  • Verify reliable test data exists in the test environment by comparing the data to the defined testing requirements.
  • Populate the test environment by coordinating data extracts from other environments.
  • Collaborate with other test engineers in the development and use of automated testing techniques and tools.
  • Prior to implementation, review functional and technical requirements and perform QA validation to ensure software meets requirements and complies with ITSD standards.
  • Consult with system managers, project leads, customers and business representatives to determine system requirements and specifications according to industry best practices.
  • Actively pursue opportunities to improve, streamline and reinvent work processes.
  • Build and maintain internal and external customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the organization.
  • Effectively demonstrate proactive interest in resolving customer problems/requests.

Required qualifications
Four years of information technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment; directing projects; providing customer or technical support in information technology; or administering or supervising staff who performed work in any of these information technology disciplines.

Desired qualifications

  • Experience in developing and writing test conditions and scripts based on design of new or existing functionality.
  • Ability to understand documents that illustrate application functionality and desired enhancements of large scale systems.
  • At least two years experience testing software, including: Function Testing.
  • Two years of experience executing formal test plans and test cases, evaluating and documenting results.
  • Two years of experience performing defect management and reporting.
