Unemployment Insurance Tax and Wage Administration is seeking a state audit coordinator to develop and oversee the statewide Field Audit Program.

Unemployment Insurance Division profile
The Unemployment Insurance division administers and provides program services through statewide TeleCenters and its Web site. This division collects premiums from Washington employers and pays UI benefits to individuals who meet eligibility requirements. It also reviews, audits, and investigates instances of fraud.

The opportunity
As state audit coordinator, you will independently develop the statewide Field Audit Program. This program will include 10 district tax offices located around Washington State. You will coordinate, monitor, review, analyze and implement this program across the state.

You will initiate and administer all corrective actions related to the audit program, and return incomplete audits or audits not in compliance with policy, state, and federal laws. You will coordinate with staff at the district tax office to meet performance standards and conduct training with staff.

In addition, you will work with managers to strategically plan, develop, and implement new procedures or revisions to existing policies or procedures to complement Department of Labor’s Field Audit Policy requirements and legislative mandates.

Required qualifications
One year of experience as an Employment Security Program Coordinator 2,

OR

Two years of experience as a WorkSource Specialist 3 or Tax Specialist 3 - ES or equivalent,

OR

A bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, political science, or a closely related field, and four years of professional or technical experience in employment and training or unemployment-insurance programs.

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for education.

Desired qualifications
Top candidates will have at least 24 accounting credits; experience interpreting complex tax laws and rules; experience communicating with diverse audiences and stakeholders using professional writing formats; experience conducting small-group or one-on-one training; and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SQL Database. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Intermediate Accounting Principles, auditing techniques, the agency's Tax Information System (TAXIS) mainframe screens, and Tax Performance Standards (TPS) is preferred.
